Called 'calcarole' allowed integration with arboreal crops of fruit or seed,
such as apple trees, pear-trees, plum trees, walnut trees,
but above all of the highly prized mulberry tree, in the species morus alba, addressed at the end of the sixteenth century to the nascent silkworm industry, a plant species also productive on morainic soils, also used in the morus nigra variety, as a living support of the vines and a primary sugar-based food supplement.
